How to Enable the Screen Reader option on Android Devices

Overview

Enabling the Android Screen Reader (TalkBack) allows testers and developers to evaluate how well an app supports visually impaired users through spoken feedback and gesture-based navigation. It helps identify accessibility gaps such as missing content descriptions, poor focus order, or non-interactive elements that hinder usability. For testers, TalkBack ensures apps meet accessibility standards and deliver consistent auditory cues across devices, while for developers, it offers a real-world understanding of how effectively UI elements communicate without visual input. Incorporating TalkBack testing early helps create apps that are inclusive, compliant, and deliver a truly accessible user experience.

Steps

  1. Connect to any available Android devices

  2. Select “Screen Reader” on the Left Panel

  3. The user will be able to hear a voiceover that talks about everything on the screen.

  4. Use the Screen Reader feature to test your apps for accessibility.
