Clash of Test Titans -The day of the Hackathon

The month of July has been one of the most exciting and exhilarating months of the year. Apart from the various product updates that we have been releasing, one of the major launches of the year has been to build a community of testers, developers, QA professionals and everyone in between. And what better way to bring everyone together than to complete and have fun at the same time, and hence the Hackathon – Clash of Test Titans.

With over hundreds of registrations from a wide range of profiles in the testing industry, there was no room to bottle the feeling of excitement, joy, and the happiness of coming together. We had a lot of people sign up as teams, and solo testers from the brightest students to senior folks in the QA space.

Day of the Hackathon

Clash of Test Titans – The Test Automaton Hackathon was scheduled for the 30th of July. We began the day with a welcome address by our Co-founder Avinash Tiwari, who shared his vision for the community and conveyed his wishes to all the participants virtually.

Following the Welcome Address, we had Shueb Ahmed (Lead Pre-Sales Consultant, pCloudy) share the judging criteria, the task and other details of the event. The participants were given 6 hours to complete the hackathon tasks and submit their solutions by the end of the day at 5pm. The entire day was filled with questions, doubts, and active participation of the testers going back to the assigned mentors for help, and ofcourse we had our share of fun along the way.

We even had some bonus points for those who were active in the Test Titans community to qualify for the leaderboard and compete for the Swag Kits.

We concluded the day with a closing ceremony with a number of participants turning in their submissions. We still await the results of the Hackathon that will be released in a week or two.

The Task

The participants were given 4 scenarios to automate an Android App test on appium where they had to use different pCloudy features like Object Spy, OCR, and Visual AI. Each of the scenarios had different operations like identifying visual bugs, drawing an emoji, extracting text from the app screen, getting coordinates for buttons, etc.

Rewards & Results

We are excited to announce the winners soon, however, it will take a week as the judges are analyzing the submissions to ensure a thorough check. What’s more exciting is the rewards that the winner takes home with them. The winner will be rewarded with a handsome cash prize of 1lakh indian rupees followed by 50 thousand and 25 thousand indian rupees for the 1st and 2nd runner ups respectively. And of course the top 10 active participants on the Community leaderboard get these cool swag kits worth 2500 rupees each.

Concluding Thoughts

We take this opportunity to thank each and every one of the participants and the pCloudy family in making this first-of-its-kind Test Automation Hackathon a success. We are so ecstatic and excited to witness more of these exciting events in the years to come as we grow, learn and have fun together. Happy Testing!
