Asia’s leading software testing conference, QAI STC 2019 concluded on December 6th, 2019. The theme of this year’s STC was architecting continuous quality: think, transform, and thrive in an Intelligent future. The STC is a platform for experts to display ideas, experiments, and experiences to explore challenges and suggest techniques and innovations to overcome common problems. Avinash’s keynote focused on the future of testing which was lauded by the top minds and became the highlight of the event. pCloudy was the title sponsor for the event and so we got a bigger platform to showcase our contribution in shaping the future of mobile app testing. More than 500 experts from around 130 software companies gathered to learn new trends in testing, share their ideas and grow their network. There were 14 keynotes from the industry leaders and 50 professionals got a chance to take the stage and share their views about the emerging technologies. Let’s have a look at the major learnings from this event.
There was a great emphasis on quality engineering at the STC as most of the organizations are trying to take QE to the next level. Quality engineering focuses on the end-to-end management and the basic principle is the all the teams should bear the responsibility of maintaining the quality in the process. Software QE is the assurance of high standards in the software development life cycle while implementing DevOps and Agile. The main role is played by testers who create, implement and maintain systems used to control the quality of production processes. These people need to have a deep understanding of all the technological activities and evaluation principles. Quality engineering methodology is even bigger in scale than the traditional QA approach and that’s the reason that QEs cannot work in silos. In quality system engineering, people in multiple roles like IT architects, designers, test engineers, project managers, business architects, etc., must cooperate to meet customer expectations. Quality engineering is driven by emerging technologies such as AI and Big Data analytics. Automation is the driving force behind turning the traditional testing into a more effective quality support model. The quality engineering team usually partners along with the business users and the product managers for having a better understanding of the required product details to match up the problems since the starting of the product to the last stage.
The recent development in AI, ML and, IoT were the buzz creators. Experts elaborated on how augmented analytics will be utilized for creating, developing, and consuming analytics by combining these technologies. An augmented analytics engine can identify, filter, and analyze data, and then recommend what needs to be done next without the need of an IT team. These technologies will make data-driven insights accessible to a much larger set of workers. The conference turned out to be really productive with good insights about emerging technologies and tools. It was a great opportunity to connect with software testing experts and professionals from around the globe. To say the least, it was a remarkable event where we got a great response and positive feedback from the crowd.
Single sign on is a process of authentication where user can access multiple applications and portals with one set of credentials. With SSO a user logs in with a single ID and password to gain access to a connected system. Single sign on must internally store the credentials for initial authentication and then translate them to the credential required for the different mechanisms. SAML 2.0 SSO services uses security assertion mark-up language (SAML 2.0) which is an XML standard that facilitates the exchange of user authentication and authorization of data across secure domains. SAML simplifies the authentication and authorization process for the user, an identity provider and a service provider. When the user attempts to access an application, the service provider will send a request to identity provider for authentication. Benefits of single sign on SSO reduces risk for access to third party sites (user passwords not stored externally). It also alleviate password fatigue from different user name and password combinations. Reduces IT cost due to lower number of IT help desk calls about password. Reduces time spent re-entering password for the same identity. pCloudy SSO integration architecture Sequence of events for integration of SAML 2.0 Authentication
Note: pCloudy has included this feature in Enterprise set up Private Cloud and On-Premise Cloud. SAML assertion SAML assertion is the XML document that the identity provider sends to the service provider, that contains user authorization. There are Three types of SAML assertion: Authentication assertion – It proves identification of the user and provide the time the user logged in and what method of authentication they used. Attribute assertion – It passes the SAML attributes to the service provider. SAML attributes are specific pieces of data that provide information about the user. Authorization decision assertion – It says if the user is authorized to use the services or if the identity provider denied the request due to password failure or lack of rights of the service. SSO solves the problem of managing the increasing number of users across an ecosystem of application and services. It is a step forward in the optimization of pCloudy integrated architecture.

3. Major breakthroughs and Product Enhancement: In our incessant effort to make mobile app testing disruptive, faster and effective, we got some major breakthroughs this year.
Let’s have a look at them:
a) iOSConnect: Bridging the gap for iOS development lifecycle
One of the very powerful features that we added is the iOSConnect. With iOSConnect, you can connect to an iOS Device which is present remotely and access the device as if the device is connected to your computer. With iOSConnect we are bridging the gap for the iOS development lifecycle.
b) Automation Studio: Codeless Automation Tool to scale your app tests
We have added an in-built automation studio in pCloudy platform where you can access the devices to record your test scripts and execute it in parallel on multiple devices without writing any code.
c) Simpler Appium Integration Architecture
We have released a newer and simpler Appium integration architecture to simplify your Appium test execution on Android and iOS devices with pCloudy. The newer architecture make developers’ life simpler with lesser changes in the code. And wonder what! it makes you save 50% of your app testing time.
d) TouchID and FaceID for iOS devices no more a blocker
To ease out the process of authenticating TouchID or FaceID manually every time, you can now bypass the verification in your apps using our utility.
e) Test local or Staged sites with Local site emulation
It’s a path breaking feature for enterprise mobility. Local Site emulation Testing provides a platform to test private or internal servers on any Android device present on pCloudy.
4. Bringing intelligence to mobile app testing: Our AI powered bot Certifaya has been extremely successful this year in running deep exploratory tests and crash tests for our users. Certifaya has completed more than 1000 sessions in a short span of time.
Follow Me: It is again one- of -its- kind feature of pCloudy. This feature can speed up your app testing exponentially. It lets you perform tests in synchronous mode on one device that gets replicated on multiple other devices which means we have added brains in our tools to speed up your app tests.
We have also started working on the prototype for Predictive analytics and we hope to launch it with a bang by next year.
